G.O.A.T.: MAGGIE may by Rod Stewart (1971)

THE biggest OF ALL TUNES (G.O.A.T.) is a series of posts, creating my 100 preferred tunes of all time.  The master listing is here, as well as I update it about every two weeks or when I have one more 10 tunes or so.

I am not a Rod Stewart fan, however I sing this tune every day.  since I have an evil puggle named after the youngest kid on The Simpsons.  So I greet her every morning by singing, “Maggie, I desire I’d never seen your face.”  then I feed her.  She likes it.

But that line may be the biggest dis in rock as well as roll history.  It’s sung in a ballad, a like song, an ode to this woman, that starts off as a May/December seduction as well as ends in ruin.  as well as Stewart has stated that he composed the tune about a real, older lady as well as named her after a tune about a British hooker.  So there’s one more dis.

Maggie may was very first released as a B-side to reason to Believe, however it ended up being even more prominent than the single.  It ended up being a monster hit, as well as solidified his reputation as a solo act—having just split from The Faces.

Further listening: Stewart has had tons of hits, however I’m not a big fan of any type of of them.  I suppose the closest I’d put him to getting any type of other GOATs would be Tonight’s The night (a fantastic loss-of-virginity tune), young Turks, or You wear It Well.  He’s likewise had a few of the most fun cornball hits, like Do Ya believe I’m attractive as well as Some guys have All The Luck, as well as has performed strong covers of The very first cut Is The Deepest, downtown Train, as well as have I told You Lately?

Covers: Surprisingly, although there are many, most suck.
First, an simple listening instrumental version…

Here’s a truly cool, gentle folky version…
When the Cardinals Come by Atoosa Grey
If the Rolling stones did an acoustic version, it may noise like this…
Riverboat sessions (covers) by Riverboat
I don’t understand if Grey season are from Brooklyn, however they sure look like they are…

Okay, now we’ll move to the bigger named bands. Here’s Blur. It’s terrible.

And here’s wet Wet Wet. likewise bad.

And there’s the very best of the lot. saved it for last.
